Have you ever wondered how it could be to our advantage that Jesus would go away? That is what He told His disciples in John 16:9. He said, "it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.” Christ was saying, "I'm going away to My Father, but I will send My Spirit to dwell within you.” Every born-again Christian is blessed with the indwelling Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9). His abiding presence is the source of eternal life as the Lord Jesus promised, "Because I live, you will live also” (John 14:19).

The Holy Spirit is every believer’s comforter, guide, sanctifier and seal which guarantees our eternal inheritance (Eph. 1:13-14). The Spirit of truth is necessary for every child of God to know and understand truth (1 Cor. 2:14).

It is the Spirit who brings conviction of my sin and leads me into all truth. It is the Spirit who increases my faith as I abide in the Word. It is the Spirit who gives me assurance as He deepens my knowledge of how the atonement wast achieved, how divine justice was satisfied, how sins were forgiven, how redemption was accomplished, how reconciliation was mediated, how the sin debt was paid in full, how justification was declared and how my soul was saved! Without the Father drawing me, the Spirit convicting me and the Son dying for me I would be destined for eternal torment in the fires of hell. It is for this reason I desire to proclaim the excellencies of Him who called me out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Pet. 2:9).
